Welcome to Peak and Moor

Peak and Moor is an independent website offering an alternative to the official tourist and national park websites. The aim is to provide a wide range of information for those who enjoy the countryside for leisure and pleasure, it is intended to be as much for families looking for a day out as the serious outdoors enthusiast

Listed are – Providers of Accommodation, Outdoor Activity and Leisure Pursuits for Dartmoor, Exmoor, The Lake District, The Peak District and Snowdonia. Promoting local businesses in these communities and providing comprehensive leisure activity and accommodation listings for those seeking fun, adventure or relaxation, – for individuals, groups, corporate, educational – from the dedicated adventurer to fun packed Hen & Stag parties, hopefully something for everyone

Each area has sections devoted to . . .

hiking1  Walking – details of walks, walking festivals, waymarked routes, long distance footpaths etc, for the serious and leisure walkers. There are many good websites providing walking routes I have no intention of competing with them – in fact I will recommend some and walks listed will have links to sites giving more detail.

Cycling – This section will provide info on cycling tracks and trails for varying  standards from the serious cyclist or extreme mtb rider to family trails, including links to web sites providing routes and general information.

Other Sport and Leisure Pursuits – A catch all which may range from Art classes and Bird Watching to Photography and Sailing. I will include details of clubs and associations in the general area.

Activity Providers – for each area there is a comprehensive listing of activity providers offering adventure days, training courses, professionally led activity, private guiding or coaching, and adventure holidays. These are from both specialists in one area and multi activity providers.

Outdoor Education and Activity Centres – Though generally for outdoor education, many of them supplement their income from schools, youth clubs and organisations by also offering their services and / or accommodation to businesses, for team building and conferencing, and to the public, for activity days or residential activity breaks.

Camping and Caravan Sites – a general listing of camping and caravan sites – these are listed as accepting camping, touring caravans and in some cases offering Camping Barns, Bunkhouses, Yurts, Tipis, Pods and Shepherd’s Huts – Camping ani’t what it used to be!

Accommodation listings – The aim is to provide a selection of accommodation types available in each area, from luxury hotels to self catering cottages, bunk barns and hostels.Website links are included so you can get the information direct. Local accommodation agencies may also be listed.

We endeavour to support local businesses, many of these activity and accommodation providers can be booked direct with the owners / operators which can save you money and saves businesses paying commission to booking agents – (we do not offer a booking service)

Tourist Information – this section gives details of Tourist Information Centres and websites, as well as the official tourist sites you will find community, council and commercial websites. These offer varying degrees of local knowledge but are offered as extra resources in your search for the perfect break.

No membership, no sales pitch, simply make use of the site and support the rural communities and businesses – Please let businesses know that you found them using Peak and Moor, if you feel moved then please make a donation to the Accessible Countryside for Everyone website promoting disabled access to outdoor sport and leisure, encouraging inclusion and accessibility in the leisure and outdoor industry.
